Mentorship Program
NIARA (knee-r-ruh) in Swahili means "with utmost purpose," a name that embodies power, determination, and intentionality.
The NIARA program centers the experiences of women identified students of color. The NIARA program is committed to creating a vibrant and supportive community for women of color at Grand Valley. By centering their experiences and amplifying their voices, we provide platforms for academic, social, and cultural excellence. Through intentional mentorship and dedicated support, NIARA aims to dismantle structural barriers and close opportunity gaps, empowering women of color and gender-expansive students to flourish and lead with purpose. The program was created by students for students. Find more information and Sign Up.
Experiential Learning & Leadership
At the Center for Women & Gender Equity, our mission is to create impactful learning experiences about gender and to advocate for gender justice. We do this through the education, engagement, and empowerment of students and the broader GVSU community.
We offer unique volunteer and experiential learning opportunities throughout the year and are committed to including the voices of Grand Valley students in all aspects of our work—from strategic planning to program delivery and evaluation. We embrace the principle, "Nothing about us, without us, is for us."

Give Today
To support our continued growth, a Center for Women and Gender Equity Enrichment Circle has been created to recognize donors that support our work with a gift of $1,000. We established this group to provide the Center with resources necessary to achieve ambitious plans for the next 10 years through increases to the current Center for Women and Gender Equity Program Endowment. If you participate as a faculty/staff member, your gift will be matched by the University! And, there is a beautiful Center for Women and Gender Equity Enrichment Circle recognition plaque hung in the Center for Women and Gender Equity that lists the names of donors. Establishing the Center for Women and Gender Equity Enrichment Circle will help the Center for Women and Gender Equity to extend its reach at Grand Valley, throughout West Michigan, and beyond.
If you want more information about how to make a $1,000 gift and join the Center for Women and Gender Equity Enrichment Circle please contact Jessica Jennrich ([email protected]). Thank you for considering this opportunity to support the Center for Women and Gender Equity into the future!
